Car alarm has gone off a few times this week for no apparent reason. Red light on steering column takes 10 - 60 seconds to go out (I feel a bit of a muppet sitting at the petrol pump after filling up with people waiting behind me) and I keep forgetting to push the boot release button before I get out of the car. Phoned car alarm man down the road and he reckoned about £550 for removing old Gemini alarm and installing Thatcham 1 remote alarm complete with boot opening. If anyone else has had this done, please could they advise if this is the going rate. Thank you.

Just booked my '93 Chim into Peninsula TVR (not a lot of help to you in Suffolk....or maybe it is !!??) for a change of Alarm to a Cat 1. This will also include "remote" locking and use of central locking (My central locking control unit is kaput!!).

Price, all-in ...........£350.

Just the complexity of getting to the alarm, removing the old & the 3-immobilised circuits, reinstalling a Cat 1 system, including central locking interface all for £350 is about right for me.

P.S. I'll also be getting the MOD-wise boot opening kit - but I'll fit that. Its another £35 approx - somehow that doesn't add up to your quoted £550 ??

I paid around £350 - although mine is an estimate as it was part of a load of other work to - including adding push button central locking etc
