Track rod ends - new ones required
Discussion
IIRC = if I recall correctly
Track rod ends on my Chimaera (power steering) and S3 (not power steering) are "straight" i.e. the cast body of it is straight between the threaded bit that screws on the rack and the ball joint end, some track rod ends have a distinct "crank" of "kink" making the ball bit lower than the threaded bit.
CAM (clear as mud)
finally, find a better motor factor who will let you compare with your old part before buying !!

The question is ... will they rust up and look like hell within the year ....
Only if you use it right and don't leave it in teh garage for most of the year...Phil
(8 months and 14,000 miles of ownership)
From my experience they are usually supplied unprotected or painted and if you did find some that are painted or plated it would probably be poor quality, just enough to stop them corroding in the box !
Far better (IMHO) to get a coat or two of "Smoothrite" on once they are fitted and tracking adjusted.

Point is/was.. there were reports of ph'ers ordering the same part numbers and some came straight, then some came cranked... not sure if we ever got to the bottom of it TBH?
Personally never had a problem, it was all straightforward
used Lockheed AP part No TA687
I had an issue on my Griff where I ordered 2 x straight TRE's after finding the offside one needed replacing, and when I came to fit them I found the offside was straight and the nearside was cranked.Personally never had a problem, it was all straightforward
used Lockheed AP part No TA687It didn't matter to me as I was having the geometry done immediately after they were fitted anyway, but to be honest I couldn't see any reason for them to be different.
