Can anyone help with specification of the Fuel hose from the tank to the fuel pump please?

Do I need 10mm or 12mm Bore and does it need to be high pressure rated. Can only find 10mm bore high pressure rated but also seen suggestions that the feed to the pump is not under high pressure.

Also need pointers on where to obtain said hose. Cheers

I don't know for sure but logically it doesn't need to be high pressure as the pump is the thing generating the pressure. The high pressure is between the pump and the fuel rail. From the tank to the pump is just gravity/suction pressure.

That might be something John Zubak can supply. I know a lot of TVR owners who have upgraded to his Aeroquip fuel hoses in the engine bay:

That was my thinking too, but I've gone for 10mm High pressure hose just in case smile The feed from the tank to the pump is an absolute pig to get to (requires removal of the tank itself) so I'm not taking any chances.

Definatley a good shout that, especially when you hear the horror stories of failed fuel hoses.

Its it normal for one copper return line and one hose ? The chap selling hose kits shows two short lengths and a even shorter length .What do you do with them !

You could have any combination up to 6 hoses

Feed side is;
  1. Tank to Filter
  2. Filter to Pump
  3. Pump to copper fuel line - copper runs down the nearside of the chassis to the engine bay
  4. Copper to fuel rail
Return side is;
  1. Fuel rail to copper in the engine bay - copper runs down the offside of the chassis to the rear wishbone area.
  2. Copper to tank
So you could have just the engine bay hoses (2)
or just the fuel pump area hoses (3)
or all 6

So that means you have to join both lengths down the back of the engine and join to the copper and hose .would it not be better to have a full length of the braided pipe from the pump and filter through to the engine bay .

I hope that's a mistake, you're going to scare a lot of people?

Normally Tank - Pump - Filter - Regulator?

Well, on the fuel supply and return there quite a few flexible rubber hoses that I've replaced so far.

1 between the tank and pump
1 between the Pump and Filter
1 between the Filter and copper pipe
2 up near the fuel rail.

There is also a long one going to the carbon canister, and there must be more on the return side that I have not found yet. All perish, albeit at different rates.

(edited to say there have been a lot of responses while I took my time on the reply!)

Think it would be easier to purchase a roll of hose , fit the flow pipe from the engine bay and just sleeve the pipe from underneath to the engine bay .How much hose is needed to complete the whole job .Think the copper pipe can be left alone .can any one give me a link and size spec of the hose

If you are going to replace the whole lot, I would advise replacing the return (and breather) with solid pipe. I've seen several instances where flexible hoses have been clamped shut with cable ties against the chassis. A bit of common sense where to use solid & flexible should suffice. There are specs for hose suitable for fuel injection, but looking for hose suitable at high temps is the tricky bit.

Oh yeah, did it from memory Dave and for some reason in my minds eye I've transposed pump and filter.

I agree with you on another thing and thats not mucking about with various different types of hose. I considered all sorts of stuff when I replaced mine and in the end decided not to mess around with something I know 3-parts of bug all about and stick to standard.

My return pipe is copper all the way through until it adapts to petrol hose up the back of the engine
