I have a problem with my 5 ltr Chim...

When I put my foot on the clutch the revs drop and the engine stalls. As a result I need to keep blipping the throttle to keep the engine running, this is happening when it is both cold and warmed...I am not loosing power or anything and the engine is smooth when running...

My thoughts are the stepper motor needs cleaning and re-setting any other ideas?

Happened to me a few weeks ago. One Thursday just
after filling up, everytime I put the clutch down at
a junction/lights/r'bout the revs dropped and it died.
When driving, no problems at all. I just had to
restart the engine about 12 times to get home - poor
battery. No time to fix on Thursday, so just had to
coax it to work and back on Friday before having
a fiddle on Saturday. Happened a couple of times
early on the drive to work on Friday, but then after
a good extended blast up the Dual Carriageway the
problem disappeared.
Still cleaned stepper on Sat. though.

Could have been fuel related and the blast flushed out
whatever the problem was. All of the Thursday night
driving was in town so never really got foot down.

Thanks for that, I have heard about vacuums etc in the fule system but have had 3 chims and this has never happened before...Fernhurst are cleaning and re-setting the stepper motor on Monday so hopefully this should solve the problem...Interestingly when I have to re-start the car the revs are okay, it only happens after running and then stopping at traffic lights etc.

Yes, I was the same. Restart and idled fine.
Just when stopping that it cut out.

Stepper motor and road speed sensor are your main culprits!

Agreed - sounds more like road speed sensor to me though. ECU doesn't have to correct data due to dodgy sensor and misfuels and car stalls. Restarting resets the data stream.

If it is the road speed sensor is this a repair or a replace job...? If so how much to replace?

Might just need adjustment. It's on the diff. I don't think the part is expensive. Get the car to an indie before it pi55es you off too much!

Had the stepper motor cleaned and the idle re-set at Fernhurst (what a great bunch down there!)...everything seems ship shape again!...
