misfire

Had my chim for about a month now and so far no major problems. However, in the last week or so it has begun to develop a misfire. It began when i cleaned the plugs which were not too bad to start with.
I spoke to a local mechanic who said the problem could be with the plugs themselves/ the plug leads or the injectors.
Anyone had a similar problem? + any ideas how to get her running sweet again?

What type of misfire? Lack of power? Un-even idle? General across the rev-range lack of a cylinder?

Could be a multitude of sins, but usually the HT leads, spark plugs, dizzy or the stepper motor. Either way, a good check and clean of all of the relevant parts should sort it out. Its rare for anything else to be a problem.

Mine had a misfire which turned into a loss of a cylinder. Nothing more than a single HT lead. It gets hot under the bonnet and hence shortens the life of the components like HT leads and spark plugs. If you get the chance get a set of ACT Magnecor leads.... its worth getting them anyway and it might fix the problem.

Agreed. Heat is the engine bay's biggest enemy. HT leads and sutff get fried. If your leads or the extender (bit's that fit to the plug/lead) look tired then I would personally change them anyway. However, it could be anything in the HT/LT circuit such as the coil/connections to the coil/something in the distributor.

Get it to a specialist - it will be cheaper than replacing parts for the sake of it.

BTW - if you do change leads/extenders get them from ACT (advertise on PH) - Magnecor leads are lovely and fit well and the extenders cost less than half their cost from Vauxhall (yes, they're a Vauxhall part).
