I was thinking of upgrading the injectors in my 4.3 Chim 430 (1994).

The engine side of the car is pretty much standard apart from having a Mark Adams rolling road remap of the Lucas 14CUX.

Future near term planned improvements include
ACT carbon trumpets
ACT Silicone Air Hose from AFM to Plenum
V8 developments Stealth Cam
Another rolling road remap session

So what do people recommend injector wise?

The car currently has the standard lucas green top injectors. I could just get these cleaned and put them back in?

I hear talk of:
- Bosch Red Tops – possible recommended by Mark Adams? - not sure of part number?
- Bosch Red?
- Vauxhall Vectra 1.8/2.0 injectors – again I do not know the part number?
- Chevy LS1 Injectors
- Any other good choices?

Which is the best blend of performance Vs cost for my 4.3L car?
I guess buying secondhand and having ultrasonically cleaned could help keep the cost down?

Also please can you advise part numbers for the injectors?

Your original Lucas injectors will definitely cope with the mods outlined although you might want to bump fuel pressure from 2.5 bar to 3.0 bar at the regulator (putting it in a vice and squeezing it one quarter of a turn does the trick). However there's still an advantage to be had from the Bosch/Siemens inj's that have a finer spray pattern. IIRC Mark Adams found 8 lbs/ft with the Bosch redtops on a 500 compared to the Lucas items, with better fuel economy.

For above purpose I have got myself two sets of Opel/Vauxhall X18XE/X20XEV injectors (GM 90501588)and cleaned them ultrasonically, which must be the most cost effective solution overall. IIRC their capacity is 250 cc/min @ 3 bar.

Std injectors should be fine for what you are doing, if you are going to rely on Mark then ask him, I'm sure he'll be happy to test your injectors and fuel pressure and then make a decision. Don't get confused with what is required on 320+bhp monsters and what you need.

I thought those Vectra injectors have a twin spray pattern due to being 16 valve !

Thanks for all the advice - much appreciated! Now I'm confused - are the Vectra red-top injectors suitable for the application (they are nice and cheap!) or does the dual spray pattern cause a problem?

The injectors out of the 1.8/2.0 Vectra engines, as 900T has correctly identified, would be known as 'green' top injectors & their flow rate is less than the 'red'top injectors.

I have no idea where this dual pattern suggestion has come from confused but their main benefit, just like the 'red' tops, is that the fuel is atomised better than the original Lucas injectors.

From the people that I have spoken to who have fitted these injectors the consensus is that the engine runs smoother & is more responsive.

For the level of tune you have described these injectors would be fine thumbup

Ah, mine is a single ended triode which is why it sounds lovely when the car's stationary but runs out of puff above 60 mph. sillywinktongue outbiggrin
