Do I need a new clutch?

Do I need a new clutch?
I have an M reg 4L chim and the clutch is working fine, but I have to floor the pedal to get to the biting point and there is generally a lot of slack on the pedal.
Can you adjust the clutch, is there any thing that I can check to see if it’s leaking i.e. the Master and slave cylinders, or is it a self adjusting clutch in which case I guess that I would need to have a new one fitted?
If so does any one have a rough idea of how much this will cost?
Cheers

If the system is leaking then topping up will help and restore the clutch until air gets back into it. Look in the footwell and if it is wet then the master cylinder is leaking and needs replacing. Could be a the slave or the clutch is dead. The clutch is around 600-750 pnds to have done depending on bits etc. All covered in gory detail in't bible.
