Location of Heater Fan/Blower???

Hi,

I am trying to find the exact location of my heater fan that blows warm or cold air into the cabin area. The reason for this, is that the bearing in the fan it-self needs replacing as it is very loud!! on setting 3.

I need to take the fan unit out and strip it down and replace the bearing or obtain a new fan unit.

I have heard from a previous thread that the fan could only be removed by cutting a hole in the inner wing and removing the fan unit and then, repairing the hole.

Not what i would like to do really.

Anyone replaced theirs??

Well it seems to depend on the age of the car. I had fan trouble at the end of last year and Fernies told me mine was behind the dash kind of where the 2 vents are infront of the gearstick.
As it happened, it cured itself so there was no need to rip the car apart.

Mines a 94 L reg Chimaera, I think its in the inner wing as that is where one of the pipes goes!!

dont want to really rip out all the heater matrix to get to it if i dont have too.

I had to do this the other day.

1. Remove carpets in passenger footwell
2. Remove panel in front of battery/fuse box
3. Remove battery
4. Unbolt fuse box and move to one side
5. Remove battery box (three bolts accessed from passenger wheelarch)
6. Pull back carpet covering inner wing.
7. Locate fan wire connector block and dissconnect.

8. Fan should be located behind a fibreglass panel secured by rivets and sikaflex.

9. Drill rivets (replace with self tapping screws)
10. Cut Sikaflex with sharp knife and prise back panel.
11. You should now see the fan in all its glory.

If you can get the fan out you're doing better than I did. I managed to fix mine in situ.

Its got to be done as it sounds louder than the V* when on full blow!!!

Ill let you know how i get on!!!

So the access panel is in the passenger footwell??
