Disconnecting battery

This may be an obvious, but if I disconect my battery, will that reset my ECU?

The previous owner to me has put the battery back in the box the wrong way round, so the box doesn't sit in the groves of the floor. I would also like to tidy up the whole ECU loom etc. - at the moment my ECU is just thrown in behing the battery and rattles about a bit :-/

Just wondering if disconnecting the battery will reset my ECU or not 'cause I also understood that you shouldn't make a habit of doing this?

Yes it will reset the ECU. No particular reason not to do this, it is done routinely when working on the car, although you're right it probably isn't a good idea to keep doing it time after time because there must be a small chance of the electronics getting zapped when you reconnect. Also be aware that the alarm, clock, radio etc will probably need to be reset afterwards.

Yes the ECU will go back to the default maps.

Thanks for this, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't reset the ECU 'cause I did that last week and initially the car wouldn't start! Seemed to get out of sync with the imobilisor and then when I did get it to start my idle time etc. were all to cock, it took a little while for it to all settle down again.

Hey hoe, at least I know what to expect.
