MPG again

I went to cars in the Park on Sunday. Thought i would check the MPG at higher speeds and a bit of booting..I only got 22mpg is that about right ? cost me a fortune to

get there and back. Do the higher speeds make a big difference 70 80 90 leptons.
At a steady 56mph its very economical..

Forgot to say some Bd removed one of my leads causing it to run on 7 cylinders for a while.Think it was one of those East Midlands TVR members

22mpg sounds about right, i get anywhere between 16 and 24 depending on how heavy the right foot is.
Average about 20 to 24. Or you could drive like a granny and get much higher, but where is the fun in that!

After my exhaust splattered out lots of gooey-soot-water I seem to be running a bit smoother and got a credible 26.5mpg the other day, giving a full tank a range of about 330. That included about 200 miles of motorway and 100 miles of A-road blasting!

The only time I've ever checked mine was on a longish run involving a mixture of M & A roads. It returned about 21mpg. I'd be surprised if it's getting near 20 during "normal" use. The thing is, I really don't care. If I was bothered about mpg I'd have bought a Polo Bluemotion or some other shopping trolley. Now please put the calculator away & put your right foot down!

I left the bonnet open for a while.. have a idea who it is..took me 3 miles of driving before i realised something was very wrong..

If you had an positive aligned spark it would have jumped the gap from wherever the cap was anyway, the plug draws sparks with aligned voltage wherever it is.

You need to get you ignition checked by a qualified technician.

I just thought seeing as its a large capacity engine and only reving about 3000 revs the mpg would be prity good..

Surely if you only have 7/8 of the engine working is will use 1/8 less fuel?

Just fire up the laptop and set the AFR target to 19.2 at the higher speed and load sites; that should reduce the fuel consumption pretty quickly...

Those big cylinders, all 8 of em, need a lot more fuel to fill them than little cylinders...


Thats why a Yaris does 70mpg, and a TVR does 20 MPG

Yes but the small engine has a much higher RPM at the same speed.. so should work out about the same..

Frictional losses and pumping losses will be way higher on the big motor and the Yaris will have a much higher BMEP due to its head design. Afraid the Yaris is going to be way more efficient.

You could maybe lash 2 yaris engines together, sort of speed 12 style, and have a yaris V8. Wonder what that would sound like!.

I'm sorry folks, are we comparing a TVR with a Yaris here? The TVR trumps the Yaris in every way. Plus, when a stone hit my Chimaera last week my window shattered but the driver, passenger and most importantly V8 were unharmed. The Yaris just isn't solid, look what happened when a stone hit this one:



Note: The stone which hit my TVR may have been a little bit smaller (but only just).
