TMS - Bought parts from them before?

My starter motor has packed up. Just spoke to TMS, they've quoted £95 + VAT for a recon BUT want my old one to recondition?! i.e. leaving me without a starter motor for approx 2 weeks while it's being done?! Does this sound right to you? I thought I'd simply get a recon from them off the shelf and give them my old one.
Yes, I've ordered bits from TMS before and have no complaints. However, for a starter motor which is a "standard" (Land Rover?) part I would use my local Motor Factors and get a factory reconditioned unit. I have just done this with my alternator (ordered yesterday, picked it up and fitted it this morning). The problem might be identifying it though because they won't list TVR. Best thing to do is take off your Starter Motor and take it down there for matching.
Alternatively do you have a local Land Rover independant?
The alternative parts list on the TVRCC South Wales web site lists the starter motor as Lucas M78R 70 Amp. They are usually right.
I wouldn't wait two weeks to get my beast running again!

Sounds right, but 2 weeks seems a little steep 
Not wanting to take anything away from TMS's services as I know they are one of the better dealers 
but I would guess that they will be taking the starter motor somewhere else and adding their cut, if your taking it off yourself you'd be better off taking to your local autoelectrician, (I've done this 3 times now 
) and getting them to fix it, last time I paid for work (the 3rd time it was still under warrenty) it was about £50 all in

The Land Rover bit is a bit of a myth. Land Rover use many different motors under the same part number. Not a problem with a Landie cos the exhaust manifold is a long way away from the engine. Major issue for TVR as there is about a 1 in 7 chance of getting one that fits. You order Land Rover part. It is one of the big ones and it don't fit. You asked for the right part number and will/might get hammered for a restocking fee 20-30% because you got the part but not quite what you expected.
The alternator story is similar. Big variations depending on whether it is a serp or pre-serp engine and the alternator fittings. Also the later cars have a 100A unit cos the 70A one can't hack it. Also about 6 different manufacturers... Again getting a recon/repair is the easiest thing.
