How difficult to replace lambda sensors?

Is this the sort of job you can do yourself, or is it best done by a garage? Thanks

Dead easy, open the bonnet. You see the two things hanging out of the exhaust at the front?

They're the Lambda sensors.

Did it several weeks ago & not actually that easy! you will need to fabricate a slotted socket to give access past the sensor wires, try using a pressed metal box spanner with a slot cut up one side. I tried this & it was successful on one of the two sensors, however had to modify a heavy duty socket to remove the other sensor.

But HOW do you change them?

Assuming I can undo them, the other problem seems to be the other end of the wire. Where do they plug in? The wires seem to disappear somewhere underneath the chassis.

Bigger question = why do you want to remove them?

Follow them back a bit, there is about 3' of cable on them before they plug into an in-line connector, about level with the front of the engine(ish).

With a cranked ring spanner or box spanner.

The fly lead is only about 8" long, unplug it, feed it through the centre of the spanner.

The wiring connections on my 97 4.0 are hiding under the fuel rail on either side of the plenum, the wire has a heat proof sleeve on if that helps to identify them.
