Number Plate Change Thread - Again

Sorry to all guys that have experienced this thread before, but, I will be changing the number plates on the Chimaera at the weekend. I found a thread regarding the front grille/plate (sounds like a pain in the ar*e) that I have printed off and will use. However, I could not find much info about the rear number plate. I have purchased a back-lit plate but the inside of the boot is lined in glued down carpet. Do I gently pry the carpet away, fit the plate and re-glue after I have changed it?
I can see that the plate has a thin bead of sealant around its edges. Is this to stop water getting into the boot/bulbs? Any advice would be appreciated (I will buy the bible soon, but have not got round to it yet, sorry).

front number plate - why are you taking the grill off? Is it not just screwed to it? Undo the screws, screw the new one on. Bingo.
Rear plate - its transparent yellow yes? so unscrew that, prise it off after peeling as much of the sealant away as poss, offer up the new plate and screw it down. Mine hasnt got any sealant on it and never had any problems

Sorry pal, wasn't meaning to be 'harsh', just couldn't understand the problem you were having with changing over number plates. mine are held on with 2 screws, on both front and back.

Carry on and ask away pzero64. The only hassle I had last weekend with the new plates was trying to remove all the mess from the many adhesive pads and sort out the positions of the 4 different screw cover colours (black, white, blue and yellow).
pzero: just to sympathise with you a bit here I guess your rear plate has no screws then? In that case I reckon the self adhesive pads it was originally fixed with have given up and it's been stuck in place with sealant. Carefully cut around the plate until you can gently prise it off. Remove all sealant and clean up around the plate surface - you'll see when it's off. Replace new plate with either s/a pads or screws into the flat surface either end. You may find that your front plate also holds the grille in. If your grille is a tight fit in the aperture leave it there. Use the old plate to mark hole positions for the new one.

PMSL. The Guardian? Now I am offended! Bit too 'left' for me I'm afraid.
As for the spelling, I'm a designer and it's a known fact that designers can't spell, hell, if we could spell why would we need editors, and lets face it what else would all those women do if they weren't editing books? That is a joke btw, just in case you have your blinkers on.

I'm glad you brought up the topic of putting petrol in the car... I've been too embarrassed to ask before about how it's done. I gather there's something called a 'petrol cap' in the boot somewhere. I cant seem to find it though so I drilled a hole in the tank at the back and now I just fill my boot with fuel and let it drain through the hole. It seems to work but it does smell awfully of petrol in the boot. :P
