Very Chuffed owner of 1999 Rosso cherry Pearl 450 Chim
Bought it in January took it back to dealer in Feb for new driver side door button now trying to use Road angel in Cig lighter and does not work.

Cig lighter worked B4 it went in for Door button
Checked Fuses ok
Cig lighter lights up when lights are on

My Question please ?

Is there a plug in side door that maybe wants connecting properly , maybe not connected properly when door cover was of if door cover had to come to sort door button.

Also how do i get door panel off had quick look could not see obvious way

HELP !

I could take it back to dealers but i am worried what won't work then.

Arty and a big welcome to the fold!

sounds like a pretty simple fix especially if you got a copy of the Bible if you haven't got one it's a must.

No experience of taking the door panel off or fixing the lighter.

Hang around, the experts will arrive shortly.

Hi arty, and welcome. You'll get more than a little help on here, as I did. They are a great bunch of people, though sometimes a little strange (or warped), but the site becomes addictive, interesting and entertaining. Browse through earlier posts and FAQ's to get some ideas.

My guess is they reconnected the cig lighter wrong way round when they replaced the door panel. You can remove the panel yourself but it is a p-in-the-a. There are three (sometimes 4) nuts to remove via the speaker hole after removing speaker. One is right up the other end of the door and you need spaghetti arms to reach and wield a spanner. I would take it back and let them fix it.

If it lights up with the lights on then it must have an earth, so it must be the permanent live to the lighter that has gone missing. If they have had the panel off they may not have put the live back on, failing that they may have shorted it out whilst playing about in there and blown the fuse. In theory on my car it is fuse No4, I would look around at the others too, you may have checked the wrong one, fuse boxes vary on these cars. If you are sure the fuses are OK then it is panel off time.
The door panel is held in place at the bottom by either 3 or 4 10mm nuts, the top of the panel is hooked in. To gain access you need to take the speaker out and get your arm in there, it is well worth putting tape around the hole if you do not want a skin graft.
Just a thought, probably not possible but maybe a mirror and torch through the speaker hole to check for wire hanging? If you end up taking the panel off, grease up the winder rack, it will save you doing it in the near future. Good luck,

Ivan

If you do take the door panel off, consider replacing the nuts with wing nuts. Will avoid you having to muck around with a spanner in the future should you choose to venture in there again.
