Running Temprature

Can anyone tell me what temprature a 4l chimaera should run at when wormed up, mine sits at 90 on the temp gague which seems hot

Don't know if it's any help, but when I picked up my Griff 500 and the guy at Fernies was showing me round the controls & dials - he mentioned that it would run around 90 or so.

75-85.. 90 is a bit hot. ..fans should cut in at 92. On a decent motorway blast you would find it closer to 70 on a cool day.

Bear in mind though that the temp gauge is not calibrated, and an indication at best.

I have fitted the Leven cooling kit to bring the temp down a bit as mine was running quite high a lot and I didnt fancy heading off to france and spain in june for 2 weeks constantly watching the gauge. No doubt I will still constantly watch the gauge......

I've got the LT kit on mine and it makes a big diff to temp gauge concerns. No problems at LM last year, even in temps that I was struggling to cope with. I know there are differing opinions on this, but it works for me.

Steve - you werent heading up the A3 towards london last Sunday around 2pm by any chance were you? Saw a yellow chim going the other way and thought I recognised the plate from your profile.

But most cars (other than TVRs I mean) run at around 90. I would have thought this was about the ideal temp for the water to be at for performance/economy/longetivety.

Mine ran at 90 in traffic or in the hot weather. 70 in the winter on the motorway. 100 in really hot traffic jams with fans running. No probs.

Anything up to 100 should be fine, as long as its not still rising.

This is of course relying on the guage though which is potentially not that reliable...

I agree that they run hotter in Traffic or hot weather.. the question was "what temprature a 4l chimaera should run at when warmed up", not, how high can it go to in traffic.

Mine would get up to 95-100ish in a traffic queue on a hot day, however this is not what I'd call the temerature it "should run at".. that's why the fans come on at 92 to cool the engine.

In real numbers up to 100 is fine. As long as it doesn't boil over and cause coolant loss.

A TVR gauge reading up to 100 with no loss would be perfectly acceptable IMHO. This weather mine indicates 70 while moving but soon gets to 90 when stationary. Doesn't go much over that after the fans are on.
