Rear brake light

I know this is probably simple, but thought I'd ask anyway:
Got back from hols last night, and thought I'd check on my Chim. All seems fine despite over a week being sat idle. Started no problem, etc.
However, the driver side brake light is not working. All the other rear lights are fine (both sides). The rear light on the drivers side is fine, just when I press the brake, it doesn't get brighter. The passenger side works fine.
A while ago the same light stopped working, but after a wiggle of the wire, all was fine. This fix didn't work this time.
Tried to get into the bulb, but couldn't work out how to get it out. Can anyone enlighten me? There seems to be a black rubber sleave with 3 wires out the end. Does the black sleave slide off, or do I have to unscrew the big brass fitting?
I do have the bible, but was too knackered to have a look and another go last night after spending most of the day travelling!
It's a 98(S) Chim - with the 4 pod lights.
Also, are there 2 bulbs for the rear/brake lights, or just 1 with a low/high setting for when you brake?

Very easy to get to the bulbs from inside boot. Peel back the carpet which exposes the rear of the lamp asy. The bulbs are housed in a moulding which is clipped in. Release clips and the row of bulbs will withdraw rearwards. The bulb is indeed a twin fillament 5/21W - very common part available at any garage/factors - even Halfwits.
If bulb is OK the problem may be in the connector block which is hidden behind the access panel rear of L.H. door opening. Carpet has velcro on the bottom for removal. Check condition of all 'bullet' connectors and the housing cleaning where necessary. Worth sealing with vaseline or similar on re-assembly.

Managed to take a proper look last night. Switched the bulbs over, and the fault switched too, so looks like the bulb is gone.
Got a new bulb from my local garage this morning.
BTW: Dodger - thanks for the info, but I think that's for the fiesta type lights. I have the 4-pod ones. Each light fitting just unscrews.
