Toyo's or SO'3 s

Ok at the moment i have SO'2 all round on my 5 litre Chimaera the fronts have plenty of life left, but the rears are getting a bit low , so the question is Toyo Proxes or Bridgestone SO3's , the tread on the Toyo's looks a lot more like the S02's on the front but thats a cosmetic thing, does anybody have any pro's or cons on either or any comments from exsperience or is there another tyre to throw in to the equation?

Toyos worked great on my Chimaera.

I had the same dilemma a month ago - have gone for SO3PPs on the back - seem great so far (and are supposed to last longer than the Toyos)

I've just changed to the Toyos and am not convinced. In the wet they are nowhere near as good as the SO2's I took off, and in the dry they just don't have the same "feel". Maybe it's me that needs to get used to them ?????

Toyo's don't come in the correct size to fit the standard Griff wheels on your 5 ltr Chimaera. SO3s are your only option.

P.S. I'm on my second set of SO3s on the rear. They're great - just as good as the SO2s were.

Not quite sure what you mean by not available in the correct size my so2's are 245/45/16 zr which i can get in Toyo Proxes or is there something else im missing ?

I've heard elsewhere on this forum that Toyo Proxes aren't available in 245x45x16 zr. Also I checked on the Toyo stand at Goodwood Festival last year and they confirmed this.

But that was 9 months ago, so things could very well have changed. So I could be wrong, but worth double checking. I believe they did come in HR speed (no good for TVRs) so be careful of the speed rating you're being quoted.

Toyo are advertising in Aprils Sprint that 16" rears are available.
I'm about to take the plunge and replace all four tyres over the next few weeks. Mytyres looks cheapest so far.

I don't know exactly which sizes you'd be looking for, but I recently had all 4 tyres replaced on the Chim with Toyos, and bothsizes are Z rated. 205/55ZR15 fronts, and 225/50ZR16 rears.

I had 225/50 x15 ZRs on the front (special stock in their warehouse for TVRS - get the tyre dealer to call them). and 245/45 16s which are a standard Toyo size. Lovely.

I have used all types of Bridgstones on my S3c and later 3 Chimaera's and would not buy SO3's as I only managed 4000 miles out of them! Have just fitted 245 45 ZR16 Toyo Proxes (to the rears) and not only were they one of the cheapest but feel excellent, in the wet and dry. I am informed that they also wear well. Used PH's Black Circles to locate, but would have saved £20 each if purchased direct.

I notice some Chims have 205/55/15 fronts & 225/50/16 rears, as mine does and I think they fill the arches better but is there any worthwhile gain in fitting the wider 225/50 fronts & 245/45 rears? Do these fit the standard 4L rims? I guess the lower profile ones will be a bit stiffer?
