I have just purchased a Chim which has really bad radio reception, is this normal?

Whilst aimlessly surfing the net drooling at TVR's (not in company time of course ) prior to purchasing the car I stumbled across a company who supply an aerial booster kit, but I can't seem to track it down now. Any ideas on how to beat the crackle?

Yep! exactly the same problem in my new 450. Fitted the aerial booster from mod-wise and although not perfect has made a significant improvement. Easy to fit took about an hour.

Hi David ... how do you run the cable back to the dashboard?

I have fitted one of David's www.mod-wise.com amplified aerials and it really is excellent. I can say that from experience because over the last year I have fitted i) a Maplin £12.00 aerial booster wired in behind the head unit - useless ii) a whip aerial inside the boot - better but not perfect and iii) the Mod-Wise amplified aerial - result, 9/10 which for a TVR is fantastic!

Basically the wiring loom from the front to the rear of the car runs inside the passenger sill. To get access to this you must carefully lift the carpet from the lower edge of the passenger side foot-well, at the bottom are a couple of holes through which you can feed the cable. If you also peel away the carpet from behind the door shut-face (it is attached here with Velcro to give access to the door lock solenoids) you can just about get your hand down into the sill cavity to pull the cable through. There may be some stuffing in here, but once the way is clear feed the cable through – I used the tip of an old fishing rod but I guess a cane or something would do the job. Feed it up over the rear wheel arch and into the boot - it emerges near the fuel filler pipe, pull the grey carpet trim away and you will see where the wires all go through.
At the head unit end yo9u will have to remove the unit to change the aerial plugs and feed the cable tidily behind the glove box (mine’s a Griffith) or whatever… Good luck, Rich...

I think Rich has done the fitting instructions, thanks Rich. I know 9/10 is reasonable but as Rich says in a(TVR) fibre glass car its the best you can get.Rich has tried all sorts, i have tried 3 types of rod,3 types of amplified roof aerial(not on the roof)! I even tried using the roof lock arms.
I have one going to a Tuscan and one to a Cerbera. If they are as happy as me and Rich, alls well.
David
