While I'm on here, I ask about Car Covers.

I bought one of Levens Leather car covers, the one that covers the hood section. Very nicely put together etc, but it seems to be putting tiny scratchs around where it sits on the paint work. Anyone else having same problem?

Yep, me too. All along the top edge of the doors on both sides of the car.

Bugger...I was going to buy one of the Leven hood covers for mine....but if there're going to damage the paintwork, anyone know of an alternative manufacturer?

Yup me too.. but I found a simple way to avoid these scratch. I now fit the whole cover, i.e flap + main into the boot and around the bonnet. That's for the front side and the back side. To protect the side, I place the cover ina slightly asymetrical way. Then, I just roll the lonfer side to make sure the tough side of the cover is not in contact with the pain work.

The scratches the car has suffered so far should be fixed after a good polish + wax session... Hopefully

Sorry, I should have said - they're only minor scuffs. I'm sure they'd buff out, as you say.

I seem to be spending today answering gassing station topics!

Any cover fitted to a car regardless of the material or design brings with it the risk of marking espicially if the car is not totally clean (ie just washed)

For this reason our Hoodcovers only cover/touch the minimum amount of bodywork.

The golden rules are never put a cover on to a dirty car and make sure the area touched by the hoodcover has a good coating of polish.

A thought, it is better to have to polish out a few fine marks once in a while than deal with a soggy wet car interior.

I use mine every day - even when no rain expected - for sun protection (don't want one of those common split dashboards) - I've had no problems what so ever - however I do keep the car clean

Absolutely. That's why I bought a Leven car hood cover, and I'm very pleased with it.

Forgive me if I gave the impression that I'm not happy with the cover, because I am actually very happy with the cover.

However, the question was asked "does it mark the paintwork?", and the answer is "yes, a bit, but so do all covers".

I certianly wasn't putting down Leven's fine products in any way!

I used my Leven car cover for 3 years with no problems!
It's for sale now as it doesn't fit my Tamora. Anyone want it? Probably not the best thread to be asking that question!
Cheers...... Andrew

I managed to buy one secondhand a fortnight ago (sorry Simon!) but, damn it, it hasn't rained in the last two weeks! Just to be free of that sinking feeling when you know what's happening to the car when it rains makes it worth it. Or it will be when it rains...

Two hundred quid later (got a hood bag as well) and now I think "Oh... I could have got a second-hand one"

Nevermind, still worth it. Used daily, not noticed any scratches but then only washed it twice in the two weeks and a bit I've owned it

Gerard,
If you want anything secondhand TVR-wise, just advertise on P/H. I got my cover in about 10-days from here (even delivered from Scotland), and received 3 calls. - sorry, you did'nt want to hear this !!

At least you saved yourself the price of washing the cover (I wouldn't put a 2nd hand cover on a car unless I KNEW its provenance and that it was clean, or I'd washed it myself...)
