I'd like to source new bolts as part of my chassis restoration but not sure what they are or where its best to get them from.

List of bolts identified so far : (I’m sure there will be more)

Body to chassis bolts
Seat belt mount bolts
Steering rack to chassis
drive shaft bolts
Diff mount bolts (front mount & rear mount)
Front chassis cross member bolts
Rear chassis cross member (under gearbox) bolts
Hub bolt to mount top ball joint cup
Calliper mount bolts(carrier to hub)
Exhaust tray to chassis
Front ARB mount bolts
Rear ARB mount plate bolts to chassis
Fuel filter mount bolt
Engine mount to chassis bolts

Are they all metric ?
Where is a good place to source them from ?

Unfortunately its a bit of a mix match.
The suspension to chassis is mostly imperial,, the Ford based stuff eg hub mounts should all be metric, the seatbelt mounts should be 7/16UNF

Not sure where in East Midlands you are, but Charnwood Fastners have a good reputation with folks in that area, including really obscure threads if you ask nicely. Steve Heath used to be able to supply a suspension fastener kit been a few years since I got mine, Namrick stock lots of stuff but are expensive, I've used Parker Tools alot recently for bulk orders of washers, nuts etc, but they only seem to really do metric.

Iain

Yep, another recommendation here for Charnwood Fasteners in Loughborough.

Best to take the old ones with you and get a few spare for the nuts and bolts bucket, they'll always come in handy.
And while you are there, drop in to Ean Muller supplies who is a few doors down, if you want to see you a brilliant business can be inefficiently run.
Its a wonderful place but a bit like the aftermath would be in Arkwrights store after a bomb had gone off

Hope this is some good as it took me about an hour to turn into a PH table (good thing I have nothing better to do) but if anyone knows anything different please tell me and I shall change it. It has been a long time coming. Also if anyone wants me to add anything on to it i don't mind.

One thing worth noting the torques only apply to the UNF threads, if a bolt with a UNC is used the torque will have to vary to get the same stretch on the bolt to ensure there is sufficient load on the thread so the nut doesn't come undone.

Also try Gibbs Industrial Fasteners in Loughborough, very cheap and quite a few imperial sizes in stock.
01509 260747 ask for Malc.

I'd also recommend if you can be arsed to log as many of the bolt sizes as you can - look at the top of the S forum the list is brilliant for ordering bolts, its just the initial pain thats hard work getting the list together.

Errr he still does...

The big long diff bolt is very difficult to replace as it is not a standard size. I have looked at getting it remade but with a minimum order quantity of 500 and cost in excess of £10 each, I haven't gone any further.

So look after it.

Use a couple of larger metrics and get them turned down & threaded... the oversize heads aren't a problem on my GKN chassis.

If any one needs one I have two as Racetech still sell them and I got them buy mistake as my car has a different set up with shorter bolts (2 1/2" I think).
