Both the Avon ZZ3 and Falken FK452 tyres (225/50 R16) are available at a decent price. I've read a few favourable reports on the FK452s but don't remember seeing anything about the Avons.

I don't track the car and don't drive it particularly hard. Decent wet weather performance is important to me.

Anyone have an opinion after using them (especially the Avons)?

I've used FK452s and wouldn't use them again. They're OK when new but go off very quickly - I suspect that the rubber goes hard after it's been through a few heat cycles.

Haven't tried the Avons I'm afraid.

I currently have 16" FK452s on the front and 16" ZZ3s on the back of my car.

I have driven the car in all conditions and don't have a problem with either make of tyre.

If I had to pick one it would be the ZZ3s, I suspect they will wear better than the FK452s and work just as well as any other tyres I have had on the car previously.

I'm a bit more concerned with track day tyres, but for the road I use the Falcon and, well, for the price they are fine, no doubt they don't grip as well as the proxies, I love proxies for the road but I'm pretty happy with my Falcons, I have 17" RS soft spokes for the road and the Falkons are great value.

???????

The Avon ZZ3 are a performance tyre for the road....... whilst the ZZR's are Avon's trackday tyres.

Falkens are good for average use on a road car, use them on my bmw's. Not sure I would use them on the tuscan though, but it does get used hard.

Are these good on the track, or will one weekend at the ring destroy them!

Got Falkens on and have to say they ain't good for traction. Had Toyo's before and they were a little better. Want something proper grippy next time but will probably have to pay for it.

You could have a look at the reviews on here:- http://www.tyretest.com/summercar_tyres/index.html

Personally, I'd avoid Avons. My daughter had some on her MX-5, which developed a vibration problem. When we took it into the tyre dealer they found that a couple of the tyres had developed bulges due to the internal structure breaking down (and no, she hadn't been bouncing the car off kerbs). They said that they see this quite often with Avons!

If you want good wet weather grip, the tyre that seems to be getting the best reviews at present is the Uniroyal Rainsport 2, though I haven't checked to see if they do them in Chim sizes.
