Sound deadening - experiences?
Discussion
I'm doing my winter refurb on the Chim and part of that is replacing the carpets, most of which has been taken out already.
I'm thinking this would be a good time to use some sound-deadening material throughout the cabin prior to having the new carpets fitted. A trawl on eBay has thrown up a number of suppliers: all claiming their's being the best (of course) and with differing material's - and prices!
So can I have some feed-back from those owners who have had this done: what did you use and were you pleased with the results?
TIA

Dynamat is probably the best stuff & if you want as much as is in that picture then buy the "bulk pack" -much cheaper. You get 9 sheets with that & you can always sell on what you don't use.Its also not necessary to plaster the stuff from wall to wall like that though - sound deadening is not there to block noise, its there to stop the panel vibrating/resonating & that can be achieved with as little as 30-50% coverage.
See http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/cld
If you then want to absorb or block noise as well then you need some different material on top.

Save yourself a lot of money. You can use roof flashing tape, available in various sizes. A roll of this will do the same job as Dynamat but will be so much cheaper

How much will it all weigh?
Also doesn't most if the noise come from the roof?
Alex
There's a lot of road noise that comes through the floor and in particular the transmission tunnel - where the original insulation had disintegrated. Also doesn't most if the noise come from the roof?
Alex
I'm not overly worried by the weight, can't be that much anyway.

Because there is nice noise and bad noise, drumming, viabration, resonance, etc..... Whilst I love the sound of the exhaust, I'm not too keen on the others listed. I'm also keen to make the interior feel as 'plush' as possible and also to be able to hear the audio on longer journeys, plus my life revolves around telephone contact so the ability to give the hands-free as much chance as possible of being heard is also a requirement.
So all comments from those who have actually done this before are welcomed.

Dynamat is not cheap & there are similar products around which are a bit less expensive but on balance I went for the Dynamat Extreme for the performance, the weight & the certainty of it doing what it was supposed to.
Any sound deadening material is not easily removed so you only want to do it once!

Flashing tape is certainly not the same as "proper" sound deadening, although Dynamat is quite expensive for the performance is offers.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flash-Band-Roof-Flashing-Fla...
What sort of sound do you want to deaden? Dynamat is used for panel resonance, which is really only an issue for ICE installs.
If you want quieter road noise you need MLV (mass loaded vinyl) or similar. It depends what you want to block!
I know envirolay works well as a budget road noise deadener.

I see it's OK for you to recomend a 'Budget' alternative though!
