Tower View / Wilwood 4 pots

I have just recieved my new 300mm discs from Tower View Racing together with Wilwood 4 pot calipers. The calipers have a warning on them saying " Not for road use, racing only" they also state that I must use Dot 3 brake fluid. The pads are Wilwood grade D pads which also state that they are not for road use although they have the highest friction value when cold compared to the other grade pads. Has anyone had any experience with this set up and is it ok for road use. Also can I use DOT 4 fluid.??

I'd check with your ins that fitting them won't invalidate the cover before I even thought about fitting them!

Have spoke to them and as the car is on an agreed value classic car insurance they are fine, thanks for the advice though

The calipers say 'not for road use' because they don't have dust seals, but mine have done 60k+ miles and are still fine. I use DOT5.1 (and I recommend you do the same), I expect you can use pretty much any type as long as you don't swap between silicone/glycol. No idea on the pads but make sure you use fast road rather than race, you need to make sure they work well from cold.

Thanks guys, feel much better now. Will try and fit them this week end. Callipers are 4 pot superlite and don't have dust seals.
Out of interest I am using the standard master cylinder, will I get more pedal travel as I now have 4 smaller pistons not 1 ?

Thanks for the advice Andy, I have also got a set of RED Dot 40 groove discs and fast road pads for the rear to try and balance the brakes, wanted a bit more up front compared to the original 240mm set up but not too much as to make the rear end light, may end up fitting a balance valve.

I have had this setup in my Griff for about 3 years with no problems either. I would recommend using Dot 5.1 not 4. It has a better spec and is interchangeable.

BTW The AP Racing brakes used on the Cerberas have similar warnings if you look in detail on the very very very small print.

The master cylinder again should not be an issue. I have not lost any brake travel on mine because the callipers have a similar volume.

I've had superlite 4 pots on my chim for 3 years with no problems other than a bit of pad noise.

the braking is fantastic, although it is coupled to better rear disks ( standard calipers) and nitron dampers...

The changes you made should have thrown the balance *way* out but if you still aren't sure it can't be too bad!
