Teething problems?

Hi all, I bought my first TVR last saturday and have spent the last week driving it at every opportunity! I simply cannot get over the glorious sound of my Chim's V8, in fact it came with a power amp and CD changer in the boot and I have not bothered to listen to the stereo once as I have that fantastic rumbling roar to listen to instead.

The car is fairly old now being an 'N' reg and I expected a few 'teething' problems and I thought I would run a couple of the trickier ones by you guys and see if they are common or more serious.

1) It was bucketing it down on Sunday and I noticed that quite a lot of water was running down the front inside of the driver side window. I lowered the window and moved the roof seal as best I could but the fit, when I wound it back up, was still less that would be desired. Is this a common problem? Can I replace the seal or is this a precursor to getting a new roof panel?

2) The second and much more worrying issue is that last night it had been raining again and when I parked up I noticed that I had been dripping petrol/oil on the road where I had reversed back in. Mainly due to the downpour I couldn't see where the leak was coming from under the car and this morning there seems to be no trace. Any ideas?

1) yes you can buy the seal and it's an easy job to replace - buy it from any TVR dealer - called Targa seal I think. Not expensive. You can also adjust the window height by turning a screw hidden just below the top of the door on the inside of the glass under the hairy brush thingy - about half way across the door...try doing a search for this for a better desc.

2) probably an oil leak - they all do that...

Ours leaks oil also but we've had it checked out and have been told it is minor. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse then have it checked again.

The other is probably down to window height. As snorky suggests this can be adjusted with a thin, long flat head screwdriver. The threaded adjusted is around 3/8 of the way back from the front end of the windon glass. Glass must be down to do it. Just play around with either side to get the optimum height so you can shut the door easily and it makes a good seal (ie doesn't/minimises leaks)

Thanks a lot guys. That makes me feel a LOT better. I will have a play with the window height screw this evening and see what can be done. I will also keep my eye on the oil drip and see if it gets any worse.

Also the oldest one in the book is spray the roof with FABSIL, it can be bought at most camping stores and will prevent moisture from soaking into the hood.

Spray all over the hood (excluding plastic rear screen) from about 6-10 inches away. You should find that the water then runs off in droplets and does drip as much inside the cabin....

I recently "fabsilled" my roof section and bought the liquid in a tin. It wasn't much money (7 quid or something for a litre) but I found this a lot easier to apply than using the spray can - which tends to go everywhere and waterproof everything you've got!

I would definatly go for the tin (not spray) as this is very easy to use and is a lot more controlable.

Can I just add, I thought mine had a water leak when I first got it, but it turned out to be the roof panel not being in properly.
