Being a lover of all TVR's, my view was that the only difference in a Chim 500 and a Griff 500 is that the Griff has a shorter wheelbase....?
Actually identical wheelbase as it is the same chassis. Rich...
The choice between a Chim 500 or a Griff 500 boils down to little more than the choice between a blue one or a red one.

If I remember correctly TVR fitted a better specced engine in the Griffith 500. In fact an engine specced to Griffith 500 standard was an optional extra in the Chimaera 500. I believe it was BigM who has a TVR brochure giving the details. Perhaps BigM could comment?
and we believe the brochure because... ?
TVR Power in Coventry might want to comment on the "better specced 500 in the Griff" claim. From what I know all the purple headed engines were the same spec, and engines for the Griff and Chim 500 all came out of the same shed at Blackpool.
All the brochures I've ever seen have the engines rated the same - but as pointed out already, neither produce the claimed 340bhp.

different springs and shocks as well.
Depends on which years you compare as well as it took some time for the Chim 500 and Griff 500 to come together and they still had slight differences in the suspension department.
