Door won't lock

I've exactly this problem too. I've checked the bible v2 p307 and indeed it does suggest that the door switch thingymebob could be the problem.
However, in my case since I've had the car (over 2 years) the courtesy light has never worked in any position (always on or only when door open). I put this down to a blown bulb and never really cared.
But the odd thing is now that the passenger door won't lock the courtesy light works fine!
Also, if I have the drivers door open and try to lock it I get a clunking noise - I get no such noise at all from the passenger side. So is this a fuse, relay, solenoid problem.

Previous postings agree with my experience.
If the switches are not depressed properly on mine (e.g. the, passenger door is only latched on the anti-burst rather than fully closed), the central locking will try to lock, then unlock combined with a complaining "peep" to tell you it's not happy!

I get no clunk noise from passeneger side like I do from driver's side when I arm the alarm.
I get no peep from alarm to say the door is open - in fact I never did, only if boot or bonnet is open.
The door is simply not locked, whereas the driver's one is.
The confusing thing is why does the interior light now work? Is this an artifact of some inventive wiring at Blackpool?
edited to add: Sorry SlowRider, I'm not meaning to hijack your thread, it's just that we both seem to be experiencing the same problem - and a problem shared is hopefully a problem solved by the might of PH.

Exactly what I get, although my courtesy light works fine. You do have to slam the passenger door quite hard tho'.

i had exactly the same problem. solenoid ws duff. you could hear it wasnt working. in my case it hd just got lazy but needed replacing anyway.
lift the carpet behind the seat just passed the door. If your solenoid has packed up entirely you can manually push down the solenoid so its in a locked position for now just to ensure the car is secure until you get it fixed. you can still open the passenger door - just using the interior knob.
i found with mine being lazy htouhg it would sometimes open the passenger door when the button was pressed. In my case, a few pushes up and down on the solenoid and it would come back to life to lock both doors if pressed shortly after pushing it up and down. it would unlock later but then the same process had to be repeated every time i locked the car untli it was replaced.
lift the carpet behind the seat just passed the door. If your solenoid has packed up entirely you can manually push down the solenoid so its in a locked position for now just to ensure the car is secure until you get it fixed. you can still open the passenger door - just using the interior knob.

Thanks, thats very helpful. Seems to be my solenoid too. It only works if I help by pushing a little bit. The mechanism doesnt seem too stiff so I will try replacing the solenoid.
One question though. How is the solenoid attached to the board at the back? Seems a silly question, but I just cant see screws or anything.
