How much does higher mileage effect value ?

Hi all, could anyone on hear give some advice?
I recently put my T reg, 1999 chimaera 4ltr up for sale on the car adds section. The car is pretty much faultless, with full history, etc etc. The only down side to a potential sale, I thought is that it has covered 65k miles, So put it up for £16.500
However, a couple of weeks later, and after no sign of any interest at all,I am wondering if I am being a little optomistic with my expectations, Pesonally, I"ve never had a problem with cars that have been used a bit, and 13k miles a year with regular servicing on any other car would be considered normal.
So I guess what I am asking is your general opinions on what I can realistically expect to get privately, please be honest, I promise not to get upset!!

I don't know your car but I would say it's very reasonably priced - maybe even a bit low - that mileage wouldn't put me off - after all V8s have done well over 100K miles with no sweat at all.

I have to say you are probably asking too much imho, I have had trouble in selling my 450 for 15500 and now will take 15000 and its done 20k less mileage than yours.......sorry!

I have just bought bought a 1998 450 chim for £14600 with the odd niggle which I knew about. I thought this was about right. oh I forgot to mention it has about 48500 miles on the clock

Thanks for the replies so far.
ntel, sounds like you got yourself a cracking deal there. I think I maybe being a little optomistic with what I am expecting, I would guess that like for like, a 4.5ltr is going to be worth at least a grand more than a 4.0.
Also when looking at the amount of TVRs for sale, and what else is available for that sort of money,I suppose its hardly supprising really.
At least my backs not against the wall at the moment,I will just have to gradually lower the asking price until I get some interest, hopefully not to far, otherwise I will have to consider building a larger garage!

well i bought mine 2 weeks ago ish so i'll try an help

it wasn't that i was put of by the higher mileage cars they were just lower down the list of posibilities i had to look at. Although to be fair i had some strick colour requirements.

my main worry with a higher mileage car would be potential costs, i.e. new clutchs, cams, etc etc. Also i wanted a car that felt tight and new, I did try a 38000 mile car and it felt every bit as tight as mine (19000), so maybe thats unjust. my second concern about a higher mileage car would be squeaking and rattling as this bugs the crap outta me. Fortunately(un?) i found my car fast so didn't get chance to confirm whether this is the case.

then theres the cost, if a higher mileage car was just as good as a 20000, its still a high mileage car and i'd also be thinking about my resale.

just as a footnote i looked at a 26000 mile car that was a shed

Milage is always a subjective thing, in my limited experience with TVR's ones that have been driven tend to be more reliable than those that sit around and only come out when it's summer. A relativly high milage wouldn't put me off depending on overall condition but many peole are put off by such things.

I paid possibly a little to much for my 450 about a year ago 18k with 36k on the clock. Unfortunatly I had a wedge to dispose of so finding a garage that would part ex was as important as the right car (selling a 350 privatly is hard work).
