New owner - running question
Discussion
Hello Everybody
I've just bought a Chimaera (1996 4.0) and I am delighted with it. I have been reading the forum for some weeks now and it has been a great help in the buying experience.
Just one issue though: The car seems to hold back on medium to hard acceleration - worse when cold but still does it when the engine is warm. Once above 3,000 rpm it seems to clear and performs as it should.
I have ordered the bible, but in the mean time any ideas ??
Many thanks

I'll do that. Although I'm mechanically minded, I havn't got a clue what the stepper motor is/where it is/or what it does - I hope the bible will enlighten.
By the way, appologies for the author name - it was the first thing that entered my mind when asked by the computer - can't seem to change it now though......

Go into your profile - I'm sure it's quite easy to change (and confuse everybody). You might try out Ted's limit on rude names....

well I'll say it first - try cleaning the stepper motor. Seems to always cure any rough running on mine.
Wow! What a rapid response, Phil. I reckon you have some sort of 'stepper motor' alert system in place...
The first time my Chim's stepper motor was cleaned it didn't make any difference to Trev's rough performance. However, the second time it seemed to make a real difference but unfortunately he's slowly gone back to his old ways...'kangarooing' at low speeds
He really does need servicing
I wouldn't accelerate hard when the engine is cold. Not so good for the longevity of the engine. Let it warm up for a few minutesbefore tanking it properly. Unless you live near a whole buch of people and your car has no silencing. In which case drive it slowly for the first few miles.
