My dealer warranty is about to expire and I'm interested in taking out a private warranty for a year or more. Can anyone offer any guidance as to good options on the market (please note it's against the rules to slag off bad companies in this forum)? The dealer warranty is renewable, but at considerable cost so I'm shopping around.
Mine's a 4.5 in case that makes a difference.

Of those companies willing to cover TVRs at all, prices seem to vary enormously. So far, I have found the following, based on a 2000 V plate Chim 450 worth £25k ish and with about 20,000 miles at present:
Carcare plan (the company used by my dealer): 1 year £895 including Green Flag recovery.
Warranty Wise: £735 for a year and £1,247 for 2 years, "Premium" level of cover.
privatevehiclewarranty.co.uk: £395 for 1 year on any TVR.
Sadly, I had to make a claim last year when I got stranded on the way to Goodwood. (Which meant I also missed most of Goodwood but there we are). Carcare plan were very good - no quibbles at all and full TVR labour rates paid. They require that TVR dealer inspects the car for them before cover starts. So basically although it's bloody expensive at least it works! But I don't want to pay that much if there are cheaper comparable options. What I don't want is to take what looks like a good deal only to find that the company doesn't deal with valid claims efficiently.
There's quite a bit of chat about Warranty Wise over on a similar thread on the Tuscan site at the moment.
Some of you must have private warranties. If so, any guidance would be greatly apreciated.

Have yet to make a claim, touch wood (had my Chim 400 for one month) so cant vouch for service: but on price and features this lot seem to be OK. http://.www.warrantyworks.co.uk. I have 12 month platinum cover (max clain limited £1000 in anyone calim - total limit = value of the car) for £265.65. The ploicy is under written by Olympic Warranties.

Just a thought, although the level of cover may not be comprehensive enough for you. If you have AA 'Breakdown/Recovery' in place then you can also take out their additional 'Parts & Labour' policy for a further £52 pa. This enables you to make 3 claims per year, up to £500 in each case, providing that the patrolman can identify the reason for the breakdown but is unable to fix the problem at the roadside.
It's quite a handy 'peace of mind' policy to have but I do appreciate that it has limitations.
