Sorry to bring up this old chestnut and i know there's a similar thread running at the moment but . . .

Does anybody know of a company who will insure a 22 year old on any spec. Chimaera. I have 4 years NCB and a clean license but the only quote I can get is from 'Zenith' and is for just under £3500.

I had a quote from Direct Line last year when I was 21 and they quoted £1700 with a £650 voluntary excess but now say they don't insure under 25's.

I have tried . . .

Tesco
Direct Line
AA
Quotelinedirect
A Mannings
Norwich Union
Endsleigh
Sunninghill
Elephant
4YoungDrivers

Does anybody know whether it's a recent thing not insuring under 25's on Chimaera's?

Am a little gutted as i've been planning on getting a Chimaera for 6 months now and was actually waiting for the insurance to come down in price a little when i turned 22.

Any ideas or suggestions?

thanks
Andrew

Losts of crashes involving inexperienced drivers recently so premiums are either high/very high or not available.

I got a quote for an S3 from Tesco recently for just over a grand and I'm only 24.

I know the performance isn't in the same league, but as far as I know they are both group 20...

Get yourself an advanced driving cert, it may help.

I insured mine at 24 (but that was through Tescos who are backed by Direct Line). How about checking the back of a Max Power mag for insurers of young drivers.
BTW, the Griff 500 is marginally cheaper to insure than a Chimaera 400 at most insurance companies.

ClassicLine wasn't on your list, so worth giving a try.

Andy, I know it's different for all peeps, as insurance companies seem to be a tad peverse, but I have always found Privelidge to be excellent - been with them 8 years now, and every winter I spend an afternoon on the phone trying to find someone to beat their quotes, and never have done.

Same now for my wife, and mother and father, all of whom have shifted - all for different reasons - I've always had reasonable high performance cars, I'm still only 27, and as a company director in the media sector, insurers don't like me - Parents are both over 60, Dad likes his turboed Saabs, and Mum has just this week upgraded from a 1.25 Fiesta Ghia to a brand new Skoda Fabia RS - and they've quoted her a rise of..... £6.... for the remaining 10 months of her insurance year. Finally the wife (careless wench) has six points on her licence, and no no-claims from years of company cars:

The total for the pair of us on my Chim 400HC - £703 16k per year, full comp, business mileage and European cover.

Sorry to bang on, but I'm well chuffed! Anyway, they're probably worth a go.

I got mine (1996, 4.0 Chimaera, living in Kent in a London Borough, no convictions or accidents)at 22 just over a year ago (Feb 2003) and paid Tesco £1300 Fully Comp with 4 NCB!! Mine in garaged, only 5K mile p/year, Cat 1 alarm etc.. Renewed it @ age of 23 in Feb of this year with 5 years NCB @ £1100!! Tesco's bet everyone by far - most of the other companies that people list on here will only insure 25 year olds +, hence why I stuck with Tesco (plus their good price).

What did Tesco quote you?

Good luck finding insurance - persevere! Chimaeras @ 22 are FAB!

Got a 95 4.0L when i was 21.
A lot of hard work and a loan - not a little rich kid!
