Tyres again - sorry
Discussion
Ok, now that its come to the point where I need 4 new tyres and SO2s just can't be obtained, what are the going thoughts on the options available.
When SO3s came out there was a lots talk of them not being very good. Now that people have had them fitted for a while, what is the view ?
Also I've heard talk of one of the TOYO tyres being a better option. Any one know more ?
Cheers

Phil, I run 245/45 16 back and 225/50 15 fronts on my 450 and had the same dilemma as you last month when I needed to change them. I took the plunge for S03’s all round and to be honest I think they're great, haven’t pushed them to far in the wet mind but in the day they’re as good if not better then the S02’s.
Wasn’t tempted by Toyo as they appear even softer then the Bridgestone’s and I only managed 3000 on them
plus Toyo don’t make 225/50 15’s as a ZR rating.

They're certainly no worse, they feel well planted now they're scrubbed in, and the only issue appears to be that I would have a different view if it were on 17" wheels. (Lots of threads including shpub
explanation to be found!) I am on standard 15" and 16", couple of thousand on the back and a thousand on the fronts - nothing to be scared of!!!!!!Well, I'm in the same situation for new tyres for my Chimaera & the tyre place that I phoned said they could still get SO2PPs no problem. They said that they could get them next day delivery & quoted £448 inc Vat
I'm in Edinburgh, so your mileage may vary, but they still seem to be around...
cheers,

Has anyone tried Michelins? If so, which ones? Looks like I will be replacing a couple tyres soon, so I thought I may try something different. Since I'm an old fart, and don't intend to go 160 mph, I really don't need a Z rated tyre. (getting chicken in my old age)
I know this subject keeps getting beat to death, but I have yet do see many people stray away from the S02's.

Thirsty , I had Michelin Pilors on a quick Golf .....terrible , vague feel , skippy in wet , fast wear rate (3000 miles front pair) over priced and over-rated , I had SO2's on my Chimaera - brilliant , I now have the new Avon ZZ3 as on the Tamora been on for 300 miles now on new 17" Kahns , very good so far lovely progresive powerslides etc . Reasonable price too.
P.S. I've run a tyreshop for ten years. Tried most of em.

quote:No might about it. The main reasons for the high speed tyres is cctually to help cope with the tyre deformity during heavy acceleration.
You might void your insurance if you fit tyres that arent correctly rated for the car.
