h/l upgrade or not

due to a prang i have opportunnity (clouds/silver lining and all that) for h/l upgrade on my 95 chim. - photo link through profile
do i do it or do i just get repaired
answers on a postcard please! i really can't make up my mind - anyone know how this would affect re-sale - more or less desirable do you think? i think they look great but am yet to see one in the flesh!

The "Speed 12" conversions look absolutely terrible on Chimaeras, because the front of the Chim is already quite "busy", with various lumps, bumps, Ned's teeth marks and so on. making it busier with the multiple light conversion makes it look even worse. OTOH, the covered in lights, a la Griffith, makes the front look a lot less busy, and removes some of that "MGB-ness" that Chims suffer from.
(Besides, those light clusters remind me of the Sentinels from the Matrix.)

i think S6 light upgrade with just the 2 lights looks superb.i feel the original lights make the car look very outdated IMHO(sorry).
as for resale,prob down to the individual.i would have the upgrade if i was buying one but others might not?
why not just get what you want instead of worrying about resale?you think they look great. life's about living,you've got the perfect excuse to do what i think you really want to do,so do it.people will always agree and disagree on everything.

I had a dink in the car last year and got the "Type R" conversion and think it makes the car look loads better.
I'm very happy with it.
Not the best picture, and I still have to put some mesh in where the indicators used to be.
As soon as I get my hand on a digital camera I'll take some proper photos.

Mmm, not the best picture indeed. You always get at least one vomit on this sort of thread, but generally thats down to personal preferences - you either like 'em or you don't - but that pic does make the Chim look a bit of a rough old dog, so the vomit is understandable! Sorry!
This might give more of an idea:
This is the Zertec Speed 12 conversion done by Peninsula (as you might have guessed from the backdrop!). The indicator holes have since been meshed. I did consider fogs or driving lights in there but decided it was more coherent without.
In the same vein I (personally) think the type R is one pair of lights too far, giving the impression of vehicular acne. I guess purists would consider the same for Speed 12, so I'm taking a risk chucking stones in this particular glass house!

why did I sell it 
I was discussing this at Cadwell yesterday with someone who deals with used sales of Chims and his opinion was it does affect the resale in that "most" buyers go for the classic look of the Chim. I personally like the newer lights but worry that it's bit like putting a boot spoiler on an E-Type. These cars look "old" coz they were designed 10-12 years ago.....

Plenty of people like the light upgrades - if people are contemplating having an upgrade, and others such as myself have already done so then this is demonstrably and unarguably true. An upgraded car is no less likely to sell than say a yellow one. If the car appeals to someone they will buy it.
When you take a step back (and remove your purist TVR specs) many TVR models are actually very similar - the family resemblence is very strong throughout the years. Its often the detailing which differentiates. No harm modernising some models - and a properly updated Chim doesn't look particularly dated alongside a Tuscan. Unless you're a complete TVR anorak.
Interesting to hear exactly how the resale was thought to be affected; did he think it knocked the price, or just took longer to sell? He must sell an awful lot though to make that sort of call - no two Chims are alike, and there is bound to be many other differentiators. My guess is the guy just personally disliked upgrades, and possibly his sales of them suffered accordingly.
