New Locks

Hi,

The drivers side lock on my'94 chim has jammed. There are many posts on this problem, one suggestion is to get a remote locking upgrade to by-pass the problem. Does anyone know of somewhere in the est midlands where I could get this done?

Can't see how the actuation mechanism will help if it is the lock that is jammed.

How jammed is it? Does it open at all, from inside or outside?

I'm guessing that as its a 94 chim you have a key lock in the door. Is it the key mechanism that's sticking or the lock itself?

If its the key mechanism it may need some wd40 and some brute force. It worked for me

Its the key mechanism, I'll try the wd40. I was thinking of having it upgraded anyway.

I had mine upgraded to push button central locking using the manual push down plunger to actually open the door itself rather than unlock it. Cost me about £100 IIRC but I am based down south so not much help but gives an idea on price.

Oh, and since having it done, the locks dont bugger up all the time like they did before

Ok then... when the car is locked what postition is the lock in, horizontal or vertical. The problem with my friend's chim was caused by taking the key out at the the horizontal when locking, making for one unhappy chim. After a while, it didn't want to twist to vertical leading to major locking problems. Hope you get into it!

It may help.

I've an early 93 Chim. It has had the Alarm replaced recently by Penninsula and I now have keys (the originals) to lock & unlock, or push button (of the remote) for locking/unlocking.

AFAIK the early cars and maybe that went into '94, did not have "remote" operatioon of the alarm and locking of doors - that's why the keys trigger a sensor on the door locks which triggers/un-triggers the alarm. My car had solenoids fitted but not operated by the alarm - I believe it was an extra option in '93/94 to have a "remote" provided for the alarm and doors.

I would suggest your solution is to have an alarm which utilises the door solenoids - hence make redundant the need for keys (except when the batt is flat!!). Possibly your Alarm has a remote but the facility is not working. I found Pennisula very helpful and a complete Cat 1 Alarm fitted was £350 inclv.

new lock barrel about £30 from your TVR dealer. simple to fit, but a bit fiddely! You end up with two keys unless you buy a full kit for about £100.
