Speedometer isn't working

Hello all, I have managed to extract the speedo from the car, and the book is spot on about it being a nasty job on a Chimaera, the drivers side bolt is near impossible to reach.

Anyhow, where do I start. Is there some way of testing the speedo out of the car?.

shouldnt you be the one were the glasses and not the speedo sorry.

There was a thread the other day about sending it to get refurbed cost about £80.

Try doing a search, unless someone else can remember it and the company.

What exactly is wrong, is it the tachometer sticking or the actual speedo doing funny things??

I thought it was having trouble seeing the sensor so thought I would try the glasses. ;-)

It is a Caerbont Automotive Inst Ltd Part.
Part Number EES5-1132-10A
NO133BG.

It has no motion at all, so its either this or the sensor near the rear diff, or somewhere in between.

Can they be dismantled, and any leccy bits in them bought lets say from RS and fitted myself, I dont fancy driving about without the dash top on and a big hole where my speedo was if I send it away.

I have already spoilt my dash cracking the laminate in 3 places so far, I am sure this must get brittle as it ages as I was careful. Never mind, I could buy a turned ally one if needed. Or even get the existing one clad in leather, or just glue the splinters back.

The only real way of fault finding is with a scope to look for the wave form generated by the sensor. That will tell you if there is a signal or not and which end the problem is.

Unless you have the appropriate test rig, virtually nothing that you can do with the speed except send it off.

How do you know it is not the sensor? Have you looked at the the fault finding in the bible?
