Hi chaps,

I've been a little rash and booked for a track day but I think the sports exhaust will take me over the 100db limit.
Any one know of someone with noise testing kit in the midlands and also of a potential supplier of bolt on cans or any other fix?

TIA

you need something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7901413798&category=38786&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

i believe they are for sale from places like Austec or somewhere, it was mentioned recently, do a search for the last month or so and you'll find it.

ACT (2 sheds on here) does slip-on silencers that take between 5-10 dB off the volume. I keep meaning to get to a track day and have 'Smaug' measured with and without the extra cans. I should be fine with them on but I want to check before I book anything. Available direct or from Austec for £45 plus VAT. Or something like that.

Thanks guys,

A result! Austec are providing slip/bolt on cans for IIRC £55 the pair. Should take 8dB out and get me through OK.

Ain't PH wonderful

Winners all round. Unless you're Austec.

Tim, any idea what noise level a Chim 4.5 with straight through pipes (cats in place though) would be running with your cans on the end? Like I've said I need to get them measured but a rough idea would be good.

If you have straight through pipes than I would guess (based on experience...) that you could well be around the 108-110db or even higher as there is effectively no exhaust in the system. The cats will help but as a decatted, no exhaust V8 will often hit 117+ I'm not sure that you can rely on them.

With additional mufflers taking 6-8dB away, you will still be borderline.

The problem is that noise measurement is very dependent on when and where the test is done, how hot it is and so on. In other words, you might be OK or not.

There is an exhaust FAQ on my website and it is also included in an expanded form in the bible.

Thanks Steve, I've got the bible and had a read. I think the only way to solve the mistery is to get down to a track and get it tested before the summer track-days
