I would like to fit a boot mounted 3rd brake light. I think someone has fitted an XK8 one to a Chim. However the MX5 Mk3 light is neat and compact, has anyone fitted this or know whether it has a similar curve to the Chim boot and therefore will be a good fit?

Thanks

Will.

I have this fitted to mine, but I am sorry I don't know what the donor car is, as it was a previous owner that fitted it.
It will at least give you an idea of what one would look like.

Hi Brook,

Pity you do not know where the brake light has come from… I was looking at a similar addition to my car, due to all the French who drive up my arse trying to read the badge on the rear, plus with the sun on the rear end the brake lights are not always seen clearly.

Can anyone else identify what vehicle the light is off

Kind regards

Phil

I had a '97 XK convertible and the light on the back of the Chim pictured looks identical to it from memory.

Hi Phil,

I have looked at the light but there is nothing at all that can give a clue as to what car it came off I am afraid. It is recessed into the boot & all I can see at the back are the wires.

Re the Jag suggestion, close, but I don't really think it is. You can look yourself, there are plenty of pics of them in the classifieds, look at the convertible ones though not the tin top. That one looks the same thickness from end to end, where mine tapers towards each end.

Sorry I can't be more help.

From memory it looks like it could be off a Fiat Brava ( the one with the slit rear lights )

Thats the best 3rd light solution that I have seen, shame we can't find out what its from.

Hi Can you not contact the previous owner and ask him/her what the brake light is off?? It would put us all out of our misery.

Just an alternative on this thread. As I never fold the rear roof section down I decided to fit an aftermarket brake light inside the rear window, mounted on a bracket and using the bolt that holds the trim in place. Does the job nicely.

Could this be the source of the bootlip brake light?

Merc SL? One went past me yesterday and it looked awfully similar - same position as on the Jag, but slightly different shape...
