door speaker upgrades

reading the "speaker fell out" thread got me thinking.
Fairly sure my stereo is only wired up to 2 speakers on the chim and they dont sound great when turned up on the mway with the roof down. not sure but i think i may have knackered them by playing tunes fairly loud in these conditions (otherwise I cant hear it!)
so thinking of getting an upgrade. Dont want to spend a lot of cash as little point with that exhaust note
but could just do with something that will take quite loud bass noise ok and not blow up. oh, and fit in the original space.

What did I tell you about going in the Ripspeed section in Halfords 
To be honest mate theres not a lot of point spending big money on 5" door speakers, even the most expensive aren't going to give you any real bass, if you have fried the current ones then I'd just replace them with some mid-price branded cones.
If you want bass at M/Way speeds you'll need at least 6x9's in the rear and a bit of amp action

not talking drum and bass mate, just as in standard dance tunes and some of the more bassy mellow tunes. what are mid-price branded cones FFS? any links on the net to buy some cheap. is that a standard size then - 5"? I really know nothing about ICE

But a quick search on any of the car stereo threads will bring up some online ice dealers, £50 should buy some perfectly good 'branded' ie Sony/Kenwood/Alpine speakers, 5"/13cm I'm guessing is the size of Chimaera door speakers but check 1st

Try having a look at this article I wrote a few years back on the same subject.

BTW it was quite easy to fit.

shnozz, Im going to take the Griff to a audio specialist type place and ask them whats best and if i can slot some speakers in the door to make sure the depth is OK first. (The best speaker soften have very large magnets making them too deep).
If/When I do this want to come along too?
I dont have rear speakers and I dont think I'll bother with them. I dont want to drown out the sound of the car.

I just replaced my front speakers...why..?? because the grilles looked a bit tatty....turned the stereo on once to make sure they worked.....end of story....
Found a 10 disc changer behind the passenger seat a week after I bought the car (was looking for a rattle - golf ball behind the fuel tank !!) relocated it to the boot
Can't....just can't bare to listen to anything other than that special 8 track under the bonnet....
My son keeps asking me why I don't use the radio ??...I just say " listen........who needs a radio when experiencing the aural delight of that V8 up front there" needless to say he returns with blank looks (but he is only 4....bless
) Get those roofs off and enjoy...

count me in mate. if they just slot in and plug straight into the cables I'm tempted to try and fit this in before le mans to enjoy some tracks on the way down to andorra
free all weekend and next weekend aside from TVR being picked up. Be good to get a spin in your car too

I only have the stereo on when on the motorway for a long journey. Since I try to avoid motorways that means I very rarely have the stereo on at all!
I wanted to get an MP3 player though for our holiday across Europe but I dont know if spending the £250 on the one I want is really worth it since I'll rarely listen to the thing! (Only want that one coz it suits the dash!)

Nope, can't hear it now it's on the carpety bit and not on the bare GRP in front of the tank....
Will let you off with the motorway melarchy...we don't have too much of that nonsense over ere...
