M3W Reliability
Discussion
are there any M3W owners who can guide me on reliability of these cars. It's difficult to find any posts on this subject more recent than 2013/2014. Since they were upgraded there seems little information posted for the later built cars. Are problems coming through about the S&S engine ? early posts suggested certain bits were underspecced (made of cheese). i have also read of belts/cam belts breaking/starting to shred ? are these cars rustproofed much or do you have to be careful when they get wet ? what about the durability of the bevel box and drive belt. Maybe the lack of posts is a positive sign, but could anyone care to comment of experience with one of these cars built in the last 1-3 years.
Hi,
I've clocked up over 27,000 miles in my 2013 M3W including multiple trips to Europe, and although there have been issues they are pretty well known and manageable.
3 cars are just back from a tour of New Zealand where they did a combined 10,000 miles in 3 weeks with only a broken tonneau zip between them.
Another has just been from Kent to North Cape - nearly 5,000 miles in 17 days https://mrtoadsmadride.blogspot.com/2019/06/24-jun...
The S&S is fine, there were some early cambelt and drive sprocket bolt issues but these are sorted.
The M3W is certainly fine in the rain, the bevel box is strong but can be a bit noisy (like straight cut gears) and the final drive belt lasts forever.
There is a wealth of information in the Three Wheeler forum on www.Talkmorgan.com however the website is currently down as a result of a hacker. It is being recovered and should be back up in a few days.
Please bear in mind the forum tends to focus on issues, however these cars get under your skin and really put a smile on your face.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
