I was not expecting much, as far as the driving dynamics.

It was easy and simple but at no time involving.

The interface, well the infotainment was easy enough, AC controls in the head unit - AHHHHHHHHHHGGGG!!!, stop doing this!

Steering buttons, laggy and infuriating at times, responsive and easy other times.

The engine, his has had the big software update to cure the over revving, blimey, this thing is quick.

136hp/200ft-lbs electric motor plus a 100hp/100ft-lbs that stacks to 200/300, its quicky off the line, I can see why people love EV's in town.

So much so I looked at the Hatch back MG3 + hybrid with the same engine for my self and 100kg lighter, then looked at the NCAP results and went, *EDIT* not for the ADAS systems, they are all good on NCAP, but for the high broken femurs risk for the driver in a frontal = "Nope!"

Ironically, a bad ncap rating might encourage me to get a car.... dont they test all that driver aids crap that no one wants?

But anyways... what car do you normally drive to think a mg is quick? Quick compared to what?

Yes I believe cars can be marked down for not having the latest software safety systems.

It was the frontal crash test, not the ADAS systems.

Drivers seat came away from its base in a frontal, fixed in later cars and recalled on older one, but still a for high risk of broken femurs for the driver = nope.

Was it similar to this model?

Not bad for a big SUV type car - pretty much Astra GTE 16v performance - 0-100 in 20 seconds

Yes, for a old mans retirement mid size SUV its a good choice.

0-60 is faster than MG claim, they're in the high 6s / low 7s

Is it really only a 3 speed automatic gearbox? I haven't come across any of those since the 1980s.

Presumably it must be some kind of CVT system with 3 steps rather than genuinely only 3 gears.
On that description the Toyota hybrids would have a 1 speed auto-box, but in reality they have an infinite number of gears not just one.

0-100 in 20 seconds was fast forty years ago and something stuff like the 205GTi and Uno Turbo were almost at.

I had the non-hybridised version as a holiday hire car a couple of years ago. It was a turd.

A 1.4 ton car with 100hp/100 ft-lbs, yeah it'll suck.

Yup, its a 3 speed and used electro magnets instead of brake bands.

I think a benchmark cited by LJKS was doing 60-90 in the same time as 0-60.

Reading up on the gearbox it's interesting (to a nerd like me) - it is only a 3 speed but because below ~40mph the car is EV only (possibly running the petrol engine as a generator), so the motor doesn't need gears 1-3 from a normal 6 speed, it just uses 4-6 (ish) for higher speed driving. An interesting solution

A friend of mine has one, generally likes it. Annoyances are, bings and bongs, noisy and harsh revs on hills.

There's a software update that alleviates the worst of the hill climbing issues.

It's a 25 reg so should have been done.

My old mans is a 25 reg and it came not done, he had Mangoletsi MG near Knutsford do when it went in for 1st first service two weeks, he had to strongly insist.

Curious about this, so a bit of googling suggests that my car does 60 to 90 MUCH quicker than 0-60. Interesting measure of performance.

Yes, Autocar got 7.6 secs in their test - it was damp at test track so probably 7 flat on a dry day
