Drive pegs gear drive unit question

After removing the engine (thanks to Simon T for explaining in one of the older threads on how to remove the spacers and then reinstall the engine bolts to shift the engine to the right without damaging the coupling) I notficed that most of the white drive pegs were missing the thinner nipple end (broken off but not inside the coupling). Can they be reused with the nipple missing or am i better off to purchase new ones? What I can tell the nipple only eases the reinstallation but does not have any other function. Any feed back would be apreciated.

Thin end only there for location, stick them in with a blob of grease and all will be fine
