Looking to buy MK2 (ongoing project)
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I’m considering buying a MK2 Jag (or Daimler V8)... I don’t have a massive budget and don’t mind non-standard cars... can anyone tell me what to look out for ? rust, rust and rust but where ?
I would like a 240 manual and plan to upgrade the running gear. Can I swap the 2.4 for a 3.4 / 3.8 or even a 4.2 will the engine / gearbox work ... lastly which club do I need to join...
I’m hoping to build a reliable comfortable MK2, which looks it age and can keep up with the traffic.
Cheers
Matt

Not a Mk2, but an idea I would entertain if I was after making one a bit faster and a bit frugal on a limited budget.

The MK2 is comfortable and reliable in standard spec. Took a manual 3.4 from Edinburgh to Le Mans last year (for the classic) and bar the problem of a dark blue car with dark blue leather seats and 33C+ temps in France it was by no means a strain. Guys at work thought I was mad to “take an old car to France” but really it is a big simple car. Have got some small tweeks to help things.
Electronic ignition.
Cooper Craft brake conversion (which I think is XJ6 derived)
In an ideal world I would like it to have
Sunroof - to help flow some air in and out of the car.
OD or a 5th gear for longer M’way driving
10 extra mpg would be handy
Oh and a quieter exhaust for longer trips
If you get a 240 or what ever then yes the 3.4 / 3.8 / 4.2 will all fit in with out any hassle.
Best of luck.
