X350 heater fan

My Jag has decided not to give me any fresh air. warm or cold. The screen says the fan is on maximum, but there is no output and no sound of the fan running.
I have checked the fuse in the boot

Any clues?

Yes it's the motor itself. I have a price for the replacement - it is £560+VAT fitted

Oh it's a major job to change the motor. You have to take the dash out

No it isn't, the motor is just up under the passenger footwell, two plastic clips hold a felt cover panel then you can look straight at the motor!

Really? Let me check............. (no more than 20 seconds later) Oh sorry, we priced it up wrong. It should be £280 all inclusive.............


Now then, if you were me, would you be thinking that a Jaguar main dealer just tried to rip me off big style?

Put simply....Yes, but I would say that as I'm their main competion just round the corner, but seriously it's a bit of a joke, the blower motor from HA Fox Guildford retails for £240 plus VAT, so making the part they say you need £288 inclusive before fitting, the X350 heater system also has a small resistor fan speed controller that sits in the duct to the heater box downsteam of the motor, this is quite a common failure and stops the fan working at all when it fails, this is approx £130 plus VAT and half hour fit time (remove the glovebox to access top of ducting).

I may have waffled a bit there but to me it sounds very fishy and is why so many of their customers have jumped ship for service/repairs and use the local independent a stones throw away or another indy if not us. See here: www.eapj.com
