Can I chop the springs?

I have bought a dirt cheap xj, and I am just wanting to slam it. Can I chop the springs? If i sue a compressor (Manual) wind the springs down, take them out and just cut them?

Cheers

Possibly. But then you might want to use stiffer shocks. I've seen pics of slammed xj but no idea how they done it and they looked very expensive indeed. The ride must have been awful though. Hugh rims also.
Found the pics

I would hae thought the answer was NO you can't just chop the springs

1. they will then brake as you have lost the flat seating
2. they will be to short so you will keep hitting the bump stops
3. they may be other reasons I can't think of this time of day

If you want to lowered then you will have to fit proper lowering springs
These will be shorter but will have thicker coils, I'm sure they are available
If not they can always be made, there are companies that do that sort of thing

If I remember you are in the south not to far from me, may I suggest yo have a word with
Tom at TLJaguar 0118-976-2899 and he can advise and get the springs that would be required

As far as I am aware the only lowering springs available for the XJ40 now are the Arden ones.

The kit is
Sport suspension individually adjustable for XJ81/XJ40
with lowering springs and Koni Shock absorbers front and
rear.

The kit price is supply for £1,525 + vat.
