Hello everyone , hope someone can throw some light on an annoying little problem with my '96 xj6 sovereign.
All the doors lock and unlock quite happily bar the passenger door. This only locks when it thinks about it . This would not be a big problem if I could lock it manually by pushing the door nob down on exiting the car but the solenoid wont allow it . I have checked the obvious such as electric connections but have no way of knowing if a replacement solenoid is the answer or if it something else.
Any information would be gratefully received.

Sounds very much like a replacement solenoid may be needed.

I had the whole lock mechanism replaced when my car did something similar... The specialist I used got a used part from a breakers, checked it and fitted (starting with the door deadlocked shut and not opening!) for not a vast sum...

Good luck though, but a new lock mech should fix the issue.

Thank you for the advice. I guessed that would be the answer but it is always reassuring to have a second opinion.
