hi all, can any one help, on way to work this morning, felt cold, as i left air con on from yesterday, so put heaters on, realised i wasn,t getting any warmer, now they aint working, fans working ok, air con real cold, just no heat, any one give me any pointers to look at, i dont know where to start, the cars an x300 96 xj6 , cheers in advance
Is the engine coming up to temperature?
The only time I've had a problem was when the thermostat failed open so the radiator was running full on the whole time. I have a pre-heater fitted to mine (they should be standard fitting) and I could bring the engine up to temp, but within 50yds it would be back off the bottom of the dial and the heater was just blowing frozen air.
The thermostat is a doddle to change and nice and cheap.

Is your heater pump working? Listen to it and it should not be silent. It will fail eventually. You can fix it yourself or buy a recon unit. It's the brushes that wear out eventually. Do an internet search for test/diagnosis and check popular internet auction sites for 'jaguar x300 heater pump' for a recon unit.
Have the heater set on high with the engine hot and running. Drill a 2.0mm or sohole just through and no more in the rear of the pump body and flood with WD40. Give it a few gentle taps with a hammer. If it really is fecked you've nothing to loose, you need a new one anyway.
However if the heater starts working again you've firstly done an easy hassle free fix, secondly you've proved it was the pump at fault and thirdly you'll have a nice warm car again for as long as the lubricated and cleaned pump keeps going - which may well be a very long time. And fourthly you'll have the money you'd otherwise have spent on replacing the pump for more important stuff like beer..
