Yes for a production slot if they build the car, and it's refundable.

(At least, according to the email my Dad got from Gatwick Jaguar) smile

That was the case when they announced the F-Type in about 2000 (speaking from experience, sadly).

The last few concepts have made production. Jag were critised for not taking concepts further, so they now seem to get a car near to production, then bring out a concept that is a lot like the car they are designing.

Clever.

They did indeed make some cracking concepts, but never made any, reverting to accountant-pleasing diesel estates and bd messes of styling cues.

Nothing official, you can out your name down etc. But tbh the list with your name is corruptible.

Been told its £2k to be put on list, and car is expected within 18-24 months. My local dealer reckons has 6 or 7 deposits paid.

That's just it, a list which you pay the dealer £2k for the privilege. If someone comes along and offers £3k to be bumped to the top, they probably will be etc.

Recon November next year for it to arrive.....still not sure if I'm going topless or not, love the coupe rear too much.

as i work for a Jaguar dealer this may help, but only applies to my dealership.

We are taking refundable deposits of £1000 to get on the order list, so to speak.

all orders are dated on our DMS in the order that they are taken.

Customers will be kept informed with any information as it is fed down to us.

There will be pre-launch activity organised by Jaguar that our customers will be invited to so that they can be involved.

once final spec, prices etc are know customers will be invited to confirm their spec etc and their order will be submitted to Jaguar in the order in which they were placed.

any customer that no longer wishes to proceed will have their deposit refunded and the customers will move up the list.

Jaguar were keen to build up a good pre order bank for XJ and this seemed to work very well.

My dealer took a LOI from me. They will only take deposits once the car is confirmed and can be ordered.

Collected my XF from my local dealer after its service this weekend, so I thought i'd pop into the showroom and get some info on the CX16. Walked out having put a £2k deposit down on one... oh dear, the OH will be unhappy.

Apparently (and allegedly) the convertible will be available first, round about the end of next year, followed by the coupe early 2013. The dealer I spoke to reckons they may even come in at less than £50k for the base model, which is interesting. That would pitch it below the XK in price range, which I hadn't fully appreciated until I spoke to them.

They've had four other customers put a deposit down on one so far and fortunately the deposit is fully refundable up until you have an order allocation and decide to go ahead or not.

Yes, the convertible CX-16 will be launched before the coupe.

Strange then how the only pictures so far are of the fixed head version.

Do you know whether the convertible will have a folding hard top or canvas roof?

Recently I attended a focus group where it was the convertible and not the coupe under discussion. Nice car. I've placed my £1,000 refundable deposit today.
