Anyone take their Jag on track?
Discussion
I'm half-tempted to book a trackday in my XJR.
Having last done trackdays in my old race-prepared M3, I appreciate it'll be a bit different, but do they stand up to track use?
I've even got a set of Dimples in the garage I could chuck some track tyres on...
So, anyone else taken their Cat on track?

My XJR is on track later this month - I'm doing some passenger laps of Snetterton for the charity day that KevF has organised. I'll report back after & see how it fared.
Evo were very complementary about their 2000 XJR round Donington on a track day when they ran it as a fleet car. Report is till on their website.

I would advise puting Ferrodo DS2500 pads in before hand though
Get them bedded in first as well
Yep, already done.Get them bedded in first as well
Toying with the idea of some stickier tyres.
I'd expect to finish the day with scratches on the door handles where it's been wallowing around, but could still be fun all the same!
I quite fancy taking the XKR on track, but as it is also the daily drive the missus isn't too keen, coupled that with the cost of a new set of tyres, it is almost cheaper to hire a caterham. I am sure it would be fun though.
I did see an XJ at donnington when I was there with the Tiv. The driver looked to be having loads of fun, making the most of the long wheelbase to hold some impressive looking slides.
Don't post on the track day forum here with the suggestion of tracking an XJ. My suggestion of taking the XK to a track met with an awful lot of what can only be described as negative vibes!

I took a 2000 XKR on the track...... a wallowy ole bus comes to mind, ..... Fun all the same
Isn't that true of almost all road cars though?
I remember being at a trackday at Goodwood a couple of years back where one of the tyre walls was in a mess and the grass verges all around it were chewed up. Some guy had been down for a days trackdaying in his Caterham and at the end of the day had tried to emulate it in his GT something 911.
I've taken my late 07 XKR a fair few times. Really enjoyed it although I have bought a track dedicated TVR now. Best on fast open tracks (favourite for the xkr definitely Goodwood) or those with lots of space such as Bedford. Then you can really use the power which is far greater than for most track cars. It's a bit of a tyre smoking handful on twistier circuits where the prospect of potentially very expensive damage seriously limits the fun in my opinion. Also £1100 for new tyres all round after a few sessions needs to be considered! All in all, good fun exploring the acceleration a few times but go for something older/cheaper or track focused if doing more as the handling of a heavy road car can't compare

I was thinking more on the lines of
"lack of suspension as we know it"
You'd be surprised actually - more comfy than the Jag but far, far better on track. But for the cost, you'd bloody hope so! "lack of suspension as we know it"
For anyone interested, the build thread is ::here::
Still keen on tracking the XJR - think it might be the clincher for fitting an LSD...

For a Quaife LSD for your XJR contact TLJaguar on 0118-976-2899I've got one on my XKR, really helps get the power on the road
Will also soon have a Manual Gearbox ready for the XKR and XJR
Contact me if you want more details on that
Thats a big question...
8 Jenveys
Emerald K3 ECU
Manual gearbox
LSD
GAZ fully adjustable suspension
6 Pot Alcons on AP 2 piece discs
Stripped
Carbon bonnet, front wings, font bumper (different now from what is shown)
Roll cage
4 point harnesses
Water pump and Tstat removed, using a Davies Craig
I kept the power steering but lost the aircon, thats a rough list, there are other things which I have forgotten about, like I have it set up to add NOS for giggles but I have the holes plugged off to see how it behaves normally before I go bonkers
