Hi folks,
Having scrapped my xj radiator splash shield on a low kerb, the shield pretty much has gone back into place, but this bit of plastic which fell out appears to have no obvious proper home...although keeping it in the boot may not be the most correct place!

Can anyone tell me where it goes/what its for (I assume air intake/component cooling of some sort)...

Thanks,
Onejag
(Car is a 2000-plate XJR if that helps)

Air duct which directs air to the brakes, maybe?

Hi,
Thats a good guess, although looking at the inside wheel arch it appears that there is a similar size hole in both sides, but there is no similar plastic tube on the other side of the car to match?

I suppose its possible I bought the car with only one fitted (it was second hand after all).

It doesn't seem too easy to stuff it back in, but I guess I can give it a try.

If it doesnt work, I may not worry too much, I'm not really a hooligan when it comes to driving it around even if is an 'R.

Cheers,

Yep,
quick google of Jaguar XJ8 brake cooling duct says you are correct, and it appears I only have one (in the boot now!)

I may get around to getting some replacements, but am not going to rush it.

Cheers,

On the XKR there is a duct to the Alternator to aid cooling

Not the same shape but could be for that on the XJ

Hi NormanD,
I have spotted a u-shaped duct to the alternator exactly as you describe, bottom end sits in the airflow under the car, top end points at the back of the alternator. And that had me wondering for quite a while, since it didnt seem to quite fit there although it was close.

But my pics above exactly match the ebay pics of brake cooling ducts advertised for XJ's, so I think I have the right explanation.

Thanks,
