X150 XKR Questions.
Discussion
Hello There,
I do realise there is a similar thread on the same page, but i thought my questions were distinct enough to warrant their own thread.
So it has come to the time when I have started to look more seriously into my next potential car. Browsing PH Classifieds, I noticed 2007/8 XKR’s look a very good deal indeed.
I have a few specific questions that I would appreciate greatly any light that could be shed upon them;
A 25k example, I know it has obviously taken its biggest his in terms of depreciation, but by how far would you expect the value to drop in the next year and year after, assuming the economy doesn’t go pop (A pretty big assumption, I know!)? What about a 35k example?
How much can I expect to be spending on it a year?
How much Is considered high mileage in these cars? i.e. What is the highest mileage I should consider, assuming I’m doing no more than 10k miles p/a for 2 years in it. I’m planning on this being my DD, but I have had cars and used my van during the week and the car at weekends to save on petrol and mileage in the past, so would the answer to this question change substantially If i was to be doing say 5k p/a instead?
Finally, I’m 23 and I absolutely love the look of the XK/R’s but I have always been taught that they are for more refined (
) gentleman. Would I look out of place in one of these?
Many thanks for your responses.
Regards,
Rich

Based on the old shape models, it will most likely halve it's value in the next four years. Another way to look at it is 10-15% per annum.
Mileage XKRs love miles, the 100K barrier is still seen as an issue but with regular servicing is just a line in the sand you pass and drive beyond. Buy on condition and service history. The car is Aluminium so look for any signs it has had scratches re-painted.
There are 23 year old ish XKR owner (s?) in the xkec although most of us have to wait much longer until we can afford the insurance etc.

At 23 would you look out of place? Only if you think you'd look out of place in an Aston (btw, I find my XKR gets more looks than Astons as here in the SE of England an XKR is, bizarrely, rare to see than an Aston), a Mazzer or the like. In essense the XKR is a ballistically fast GT and so if GTs are for the more mature then yes, if not then no. I don't think so (but I'm biased) and I am hoping, as I'm sure Jag are, that they are throwing off their old man image.
I was 27 when i got my x150 XKR. I have a 2008 i paid 32k for with 32,000 miles on the clock. So far so good. Mine is lunar grey and i think it looks stunning when clean. Those 20 inch alloys really look the part but expect to pay alot for tyres. The Dunlop tyres mine sit on can be got for around £270 each.
Mine is proving to be very thirsty and i'm averaging between 16 to 18 MPG but i do alot of driving around Central London.
I've had the car 6 months and so far the response from friends and compelte strangers has been great. Lots of nice comments as it seems to be a car that attracts nice attention, unlike what i had when i had my Porsche before hand.
I will be doing around 6k a year in it over 3 years before i move it on and get something else so it should have 50,000 miles on the clock when it comes time to sell and i expect it to be worth around 17 to 18k which i think is decent.
They are great cars and arguably one of the best looking cars pon the road today. Buy one and you won't regret it and for around £3,000 you could easily get it up to 500bhp. Go for it!
