Garaged XJS; sell, run or keep?
Discussion
I was wondering what the general opinion is on this.
I have an 89 HE XJS which has been garaged for about 18 months; it'll probably pass an MOT with a moderate amount of work, but it's not brilliant (to say the least) as a daily driver and a large proportion of the bodywork is quite rusty. I'm not in a position, financially, to sort it out beyond simply getting it on the road.
I was wondering whether it's best to let go of it, get it up and running (and just put up with the scruffy state of it) or keep it garaged and restore it properly in the future.
Are these cars likely to significantly increase in value in the next 5-10 years?

I sold mine when it started going rusty. Will it ever increase in value? What, to the point where it'll be worth more restored then it costs to do it? Not soon. Some XJS's have gone up, but not yours really, sadly (I had one the same as yours, was lovely). You can get a nice one for £3k, and an XK8 for £5k so it's not worth messing about with rusty ones I'm afraid.
As t'other guy says, sell it (mine got through an MOT and got £1k for it 2 years ago, I imagine yours would be worth similar) and save for a better one.

It will only get worse. I'd sell it, because from what you say you're not really ever going to restore it. If and when you have more money, then you can buy a better one
This ^^^
It's really only worth scrap value just now, rusty old Jags really are a dime a dozen. Save up and get a good one.
